I've been working for the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund for the past semester doing their website, database, newsletters, research, etc., and wanted to pass along to you all what a good cause it is. To clear anything up, it's a charity that is dedicated to giving tuition money to kids who had a parent that died in the Iraq war.
It's non-profit and it's a very selfless organization that I want you to check out or send someone you know to the website. The URL is www.mslfund.org. There are a couple of spots on the page where I made a "Refer A Friend" button and form that you can use to send someone a link to the page!

Jon Stewart singlehandedly ends senator John McCain's chance at the presidency: [here]
After going to the comedy jam this past weekend, I remembered how much talent those people in the Student Valley Productions have. Makes me wonder how much dedication and character it takes to get from small comedy shows to getting your own HBO specials. Is it how funny you are? Or is it who you know?
Make every bullet cost $10,000.. that way, you would think before you shoot. If each bullet cost $10,000 there would be no more innocent by-standers... and when someone gets shot, people would say, 'Damn! He must have done something BAD. He just got $50,000 shot in his ass!
- Chris Rock
Do you think this would actually work? Leave comments...
would this give the government more power...also, many criminals get their guns illegally anyway... but it sounds good in theory.
edit 8/2/08: Well, after MAKING bullets with my dad, this might not work so well ;) Maybe the act of learning how to make bullets would make would-be criminals start a hobby instead of killing people.
Andre sent me an invite to a website called LinkedIn [[link]] and it is another one of those social network kind of websites. This one is a little different, though. You set up your profile with education and job experience that you have had, and once you start adding people to your Contacts, you can start seeing people who know those people, and people who know other people who know people, etc. etc..
The site is geared to be a way for employers and employees to find each other, but I just think its a great example of the whole six degrees of separation [l] idea that I like to think about sometimes. Is it true?
It came up in a sociology class discussion today. Most of my group just took it as one of the most tested and valid theories, but "What about some random person in the bowels of Ethiopia? Could that theory still hold up if the person is so far away with no contact to the outside world?"
Then, I noticed a girl in my group with an Army ROTC book on the desk - I realized she probably knows someone who knows someone who knows someone (times six) that was in the Army and made a supply drop in Ethiopia for that person's village. Maybe it IS true for everyone..... ?
